Royton, Shaw and Crompton District Partnership meeting
AN action plan has been drawn up to tackle everything from coronary heart disease to parking in Royton, Shaw and Crompton.
The 17-page agenda of aims for 2009/10 cover five themes:
:: Community safety
:: Facilities and services
:: Environment
:: Health
:: Economic prosperity.
They were identified as the main priorities for the area in the district plan which has had to be drawn up by each of the borough’s district partnerships.
The action plan includes setting up health walks, the opening of Royton health and well-being centre and bringing Royton Assembly Hall back into use.
Expanding the shop local scheme, developing a youth forum, a programme of activities for young people and improving parks are also listed.
Other aims range from a town centre map in Shaw and improving car parks to getting people on community service to clean up grot sports.
Neighbourhood manager Jan Joshi said the targets were deliverable and not pie in the sky.
She added: “In time we can say ‘this is what we have done in our area and this is what we have done as a partnership to deliver these priorities’.”
St George’s day £5,000
A NEW committee has been set up to paint the area red and white to celebrate St George’s Day.
It aims to get people involved in running the annual family fun day which is being held at Royton and Crompton School on April 24.
The committee has allocated £5,000 for the event which will include a climbing wall, street entertainers and Viking re-enactments.
Mixed bag for crime reports
ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour, vehicle crime and criminal damage have fallen in Royton and Shaw, but there has been a rise in burglaries.
A total of 773 anti-social behaviour incidents have been reported since April, down 113 on the same period last year. Reports about damage are down 125 to 287, and vehicle crime down 120 to 249.
Burglaries has increased from 309 to 359, and the committee heard there had been an increase in the number of houses and sheds targeted in the past few months.
However, a neighbourhood and Oldham-wide initiative, which included visiting known offenders, resulted in a ring of young burglars being prosecuted.
