Pilot scheme to help adults learn computer basics

A COMPUTER course aimed at helping adults gain valuable IT skills will be piloted in Oldham.
The Online Basics course will also run in Barnsley, London, Gloucester and Devon before being introduced across the country if the pilots are a success.
The free course is aimed at adults who have never used the internet and is designed to support them learn the basic skills they need to access computers and go online.
Councillor Kay Knox, cabinet member for children, young people and families said: “This decision is a vote of confidence in the abilities of Oldham Council to deliver large scale projects to improve access to the internet for all its residents.
“It is becoming more and more important that people are confident in using the internet.
“Internet skills can give people access to day-to-day savings on a wide range of items such as insurance. They also ensure that they are much better prepared for applying for future jobs.”
To be able to confidently access the internet is an extremely useful life skill.”
Courses will be held at Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre Crompton Library, Limehurst Library, Chadderton Library, Lees Library, Coldhurst Lifelong Learning Centre, Werneth Park Lifelong Learning Centre, Highway To Opportunities in Union Street and Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale
