Failsworth & Hollinwood District Partnership reports

ENVIRONMENTAL, safety and highways issues were the top three topics affecting residents in Failsworth and Hollinwood.

Following consultation with young people and adults over the past six months, residents said environmental issues such as litter and protection and maintenance of open space was a key priority.

Safety issues such as not feeling safe when out after dark and anti-social or gang behaviour was also of concern, as well as highways issues such as road repairs and volume of traffic.

Working groups will now be set up to consider each theme and report back to the next District Partnership in March.



BURGLARIES, vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour are the crimes which have seen the biggest fall. The most recent police report said there had been reductions across all crime and disorder categories in April to November, 2009, compared with the same time last year.


ALLEYGATING schemes in Failsworth costing £6,272 were approved by councillors.

Two schemes approved in the Failsworth West ward were in Gail Street/ Ashworth Street at a cost of £2,345, as well as properties in Densmore Street/ Piercy Street (£2,220). The one scheme in Failsworth East was in Hampton Road at £1,707.


GRANTS totalling £12,127 were awarded at last night’s meeting.

Councillors approved a bid for three-tier planters costing £2,192 outside St Chadd’s Centre, Limeside, to stop vehicles mounting the pavement. A total of £4,810 was approved for the Stott Street allotment project to convert a dumping ground into two plots. Councillors granted £5,125 from the Clean and Green Fund to the Failsworth Grassroots project.


PUBLIC consultation over the proposed Oasis Academy in Hollinwood will take place on March 29.

Residents, parents and pupils will be invited to see plans for the new school, which will combine Kaskenmoor and South Chadderton schools, at three public consultation events.

A WARNING was issued by chairman of the meeting, Councillor Glenys Butterworth, to Failsworth resident Warren Bates over his conduct. He was attempting to ask a question about the meeting’s procedure.
