£70,000 revamp for Shaw car park
Date published: 25 January 2010
SHAW’S Kershaw Street car park is to get a revamp to make it more accessible and with increased spaces.
Oldham Council is to spend £70,000 on improvements, using money from its Gateways and Corridors capital programme — a £600,000 pot aimed at improving the appearance of all major routes into the borough.
Work includes repairing an area of the car park that is currently unsafe due to disused cellars and then resurfacing and laying down white lines across the entire car park. When finished there will be a total of 101 spaces.
All work on Kershaw Street will be done in phases to keep disruption to a minimum.
Half the car park will be closed until Wednesday for work on the cellars and it is hoped this will be finished in time for the market on Thursday. If not, then the half closure will remain temporarily in place.
The car park will then be closed completely from Monday until Wednesday next week and will re-open on Thursday for the market but be part or fully closed the following day
