Learn new skills for free
Date published: 25 January 2010
OLDHAM adults are being offered the chance to learn a new skill for 2010 with free training courses.
Local employment charity Highway to Opportunities (H2O) will help people improve their English, maths or IT skills.
The H2O courses are tailored to individual needs, and one of the courses offered is a new Online Basics Course being piloted in Oldham, aiming to ensure more people can access vital IT skills, enhancing their working lives.
It covers five modules, and includes keyboard, mouse skills, emails, internet searching and staying safe online.
The courses can be done at H2O, in Union Street, or at home. Clients can progress on to an ITQ Level Two qualification, which is an equivalent to five GCSEs.
Louise Day, H2O manager said: “These days, digital literacy is as important as basic numeracy and literacy. Learning a new IT skill can lead to better jobs, improve confidence, and open doors for training opportunities.
“We also offer courses in maths and English so if you are thinking of starting something new, or brushing up on an old skill, contact Highway to Opportunities and see what is available to you.”
Highway to Opportunities delivers Learndirect and UK Online courses from its Brunswick House offices. The Centre is open from 9.30-4.00pm and can be contacted on 0161-621 9200.
