A LOCAL bowling club is looking to branch out and boost its membership.
Oldham Veteran Indoor Bowlers Club, which meets every week at Oldham Sports Centre, was awarded a £1,000 grant from the Manchester Guardian Society Charitable Trust.
Members will use the money to raise the club’s profile and encourage young people to take up the sport.
The club has been working with Daniel Mountford, community initiatives manager at Great Places Housing Group.
Daniel has been helping the group achieve its full potential and encouraging them to visit day care centres and sheltered housing schemes to recruit new members and explain the benefits of bowling to local pensioners.
Club treasurer Raymond Robinson said: “We have all sorts of plans to do new and different things and the money will really help us.”
Members are keen to launch leagues for children to help youngsters understand why their grandparents enjoy bowling.
