A GROUP of unemployed people will get a helping hand to find a job on a new scheme operated by environmental group Groundwork.
This will be the second, six-week community skills initiative run by the charity to offer work experience, skills and confidence. Participants will help with community-based projects two days a week — everything from developing nature sites to planning activities for community involvement.
Matthew Courtney, who took part in the first course, said: “I enjoyed clearing the footpath at Tandle Hill in Royton. It was great to work as a team and to complete the project.”
The team worked at Fulwood Nature Site, installing and filling planters, coppicing willow trees and creating “habitat hotels.”
The new scheme will offer the chance to gain a certificates in food hygiene and educational, social and personal development. The group will also visit an organic fruit and vegetable garden in Burnley, help Oldham’s countryside rangers, attend workshops. Information on taking part from Gemma Russell or Mhorag Saxon on 624 1444 or 07990-552 748.
