Late mail after deliveries dumped
PEOPLE in Royton are getting late mail deliveries after a postman dumped their letters.
The postie, who no longer works for Royal Mail, withheld the deliveries on rounds in the Monarch Close area.
Residents have been getting letters of apology after many of them wrote to the Chronicle complaining about delays.
One pensioner received her Christmas cards last week.
Another angry resident said: “I am only just receiving my December 16 letters.
“I also have mail which is still missing.
“I have just recently received a letter from Royal Mail stating my mail has been withheld by a postal employee.
“Does this mean stolen? Was this a quick-fix employee where criminal records are not checked? Was my identity being stolen?
“After more explaining on the phone they are saying I now need proof of the letters from the senders.
“I also asked First Bus for a refund on my monthly bus ticket which I received three weeks late, but they said they weren’t responsible for Royal Mail.
“I now have to embarrass myself by asking my family if they sent Christmas cards to my children, and if so how much money did they put in.”
The Royal Mail spokesman refused to answer questions about where the mail was recovered, whether the postman was sacked or resigned, or whether there would be any prosecution.
He added: “We are delivering a number of items of mail which have been withheld by a former member of staff.
“We are investigating what has happened to the mail.
“We believe we have recovered it all and it will have now been delivered.
“The items are accompanied by a letter of apology and anyone who has a concern should contact Royal Mail Customer Services on 08457 740 740.”
