Commons praise for Haiti fire crews

GREATER Manchester fire-fighters have been praised in the Commons for their heroic efforts in helping the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
A Parliamentary motion congratulates the team on their search-and-rescue efforts as part of the UK International Search and Rescue team (UK ISAR) has been tabled by Manchester Withington MP John Leech.
The experienced team was led by Peter Stevenson, from Royton, with Simon Cording, Andy Roughley, Martin Fisher, Martin Foran, who is based at Chadderton, Vic Kopicki, Dean Nankivell, John Hughes, Mick Dewar and search dog Echo.
The motion says: “We praise the life-saving rescue work by the Greater Manchester team, including the rescue of Mia, a two-year-old girl from under piles of rubble in Port-au-Prince.”
The motion, also supported by Rochdale MP Paul Rowen expressed its sympathy to the people of Haiti for the losses of life and hoped that the continued work of the UK-ISAR team will help them rebuild their lives and country.
