CHEQUE of cheer... the Round Table’s David MacDougall, Rachel Reeves and Peter Holt from Friends of Friezland
A VILLAGE school has been gifted more than £500 to ensure rain drops stop falling on their heads.
The money will be used by Friezland primary school to buy rain-proof gazebos and other vital equipment for open air events.
An officer from Saddleworth Round Table working with Friends of Friezland, the school’s parent-teachers’ group, received a huge cheer when a cheque for £573 was presented at a packed assembly.
Oldham optician Peter Holt, a member of the Friends and whose daughter attends the school, had initially approached the Round Table seeking funds to secure outdoor equipment so it could be kept in safe, dry storage.
Jane Wallace, head of the 104-pupil school, told the children: “It’s a marvellous gift and means that we can keep all the equipment needed for outdoor events dry.
“For example, it has rained on the day of school fair for the past couple of years. Now, thanks to this generous donation, we won’t be facing problems like that anymore.
Rachel Reeves, treasurer of the Friezland Friends, said: “We are delighted with the donation. It will be put to very good use.”
And David MacDougall, Saddleworth Round Table’s community services project officer said: “Helping the school is a real pleasure.”
