CHESS king Mitchell Burke is heading to Poland to take on the kings of the junior chess world.
Mitchell, of Lancaster Avenue, Failsworth, has been selected for the England Junior Chess Squad.
The student at Hulme Grammar Sixth Form jets off to Trzebinia next week to take on the best young players in Europe.
A member of the 3Cs Chess Club, in Lees, Mitchell took up the game by chance when, aged 10, a classmate brought a board into his school.
Mitchell, who is studying A-levels in maths, geography, ICT and philosophy, will spend five days in Poland taking part in the international competition with seven other England squad members.
He has competed in Europe before, travelling to Spain and the Czech Republic for matches over the past two years.
