EVERY penny counts . . . pupil Neive Wilde helps out
POUNDS and pennies of lose change helped decorate a school playground as part of a fundraising event for the Haiti earthquake appeal.
Kind-hearted Year 6 pupils at St Thomas Leesefield Primary School wanted to help raise funds for the appeal so came up with the coin-crazy idea.
A notice was placed in the school newsletter on Friday for parents to check in pockets, purses and down the back of the sofa for spare cash.
By Monday, a total of £253 was laid out by pupils who created a ‘Ring of Hope for Haiti’ over playground markings.
Pam Curtis, assistant headteacher, said: “We had a really good response to the request and it was a real team effort between all pupils, staff and parents.
“Each class was invited out to the playground on Monday morning to lay out their coins and the result was fantastic.”
