St John stalwart dies at 82

JOSEPH FARICY
A former coal miner who was honoured for his outstanding work with the St John Ambulance Service has died, aged 82.
Joseph Faricy, who lived in Ashton Road, Bardsley, was awarded the Order of St John in 1977 for his work with the voluntary charity.
In 2002, he was presented with a special certificate to commemorate 50 years’ service with the charity.
For 10 years, Mr Faricy served as secretary on the Central and Mumps Division, before being promoted to superintendent, then area staff officer.
Mr Faricy, who leaves two daughters, took up first-aid while working at Bradford Colliery in Manchester.
The funeral service takes place at Oldham Crematorium, Hollinwood, tomorrow at 2pm.
