A leading figure in science and research has paid a visit to Royton and Crompton School.
The specialist science college in Blackshaw Lane welcomed Anthony Tomei, who is director of the Nuffield Foundation.
Mr Tomei also combined his visit to Royton with a chat about Oldham’s proposed science centre which is being spearheaded by Sixth Form College principal Nick Brown.
The Nuffield Foundation was established by Lord Nuffield, the founder of Morris Motors, in 1943 and is a charity which spends £10 million a year on research and development in education and social policy. It has been active in its pioneering work in science education for over 40 years.
Head teacher Desmond Herlihy, said: “We wanted him to look at the merging of our science and technology programme to promote high levels of achievement.
“We have used our science college designation to engage with a number of national networks.”
Nick Brown added: “The visit was very beneficial to us and I think it is extremely exciting for the borough to be at the cutting edge of the national move to regenerate the participation in and teaching of science.”
