A NEW, free, weight management programme is helping Oldhamers shed the pounds.

The Why Weight programme is underway at three venues across Oldham — Shaw and Crompton’s Children’s Centre, Failsworth School and Chadderton Well-being Centre — and will run for 12 weeks.

Health chiefs say the programme is proven and provides essential advice for losing weight and keeping it off.

This includes information about healthy eating, including portion sizes and healthy recipes, a weekly weigh-in and advice on how to be more active.

It’s also enabling participants to meet like-minded people in an informal setting. Anyone above their ideal weight was invited to take part but places were limited.

The programme, which is being run by Oldham Community Health Services, has been delivered through two GP surgeries in the past with the results proving that the advice on offer can help people succeed in losing weight.

Emma Haman, senior health development worker (food and nutrition), said: “Often it’s hard to find the motivation to lose weight or eat more healthily.

“We aim to offer this motivation and support - along with a wealth of information to help people lose weight and keep it off.”
