Grants tonic for youth clubs

FOUR more Oldham youth clubs will benefit from Government grants for refurbishment.
The £138,800 from the Government’s Youth Capital Fund will be spent at South Chadderton Youth Club; the 146 Youth Centre, Werneth Hall Road, Coppice; the Satellite Youth Centre in Greenfield; and the Union Street Youth Centre, in the Lyceum building, Oldham.
It also includes £27,700 for voluntary youth groups to bid for.
The capital fund was set up in 2006 and has already helped pay for improvements at Failsworth, Holts and Limehurst Youth Centres, and Positive Steps in Union Street, Oldham.
Young people at the four latest centres to be improved have been consulted about the plans, and the aim is to increase their use, make the buildings more user friendly and up to date, and improve those in poor condition.
The South Chadderton centre make-over will include a new kitchen and floors, Coppice and Union Street will get new furniture and IT equipment, while extra money will be allocated to Greenfield to finish the refurbishment already under way at the site.
