Charity park walk
Date published: 08 February 2010
Volunteers are planning a three-ward walk around Chadderton’s Green Flag parks to raise money for wounded servicemen and women.
The sponsored walk will raise funds for the Help for Heroes charity and take in the three award-winning parks — Coalshaw Green in South Chadderton, Foxdenton in Central, and Chadderton Hall in the North ward.
To help organise the walk there will be a meeting for representatives from Friends of the Parks, Chadderton’s nine councillors, police and local PCSOs as well as any other members of the public who would like to offer help and assistance.
The meeting is tomorrow at 3.30pm at the cafe in Coalshaw Green Park.
Steve Lynch, secretary of Chadderton Park Football Club, and Barbara Wilson, of the Friends of Coalshaw Green Park, came up with the idea.
Steve said: “It is early days yet but we expect it will be in the summer, before the schools break up.
“The total distance is about five and three-quarter miles, but there will be options just to go from one park to another.
“It is a chance for people in Chadderton to pull together and is aimed at all ages.”
