Saddleworth’s restaurants and pubs are being urged to enter a new fundraising Pancake Race this month.

The relay race will take place at the White Hart at Lydgate on Pancake Tuesday, February 16, at 3pm, with the first race starting at 3.30pm.

Organised by Saddleworth Rotary Club, entrants are required to bring frying pans with pancakes and are recommended to wear trainers.

Weather depending, the races will be staged at the inn’s car park or in the Oak Room.

Veteran Saddleworth baker and Rotarian Ian Scholes said: “We want to bring another great traditional event back to the villages.

“Pancake races are huge fun and we hope to encourage friendly competition between the entrants.

“Hopefully, pub and restaurant regulars will come along to support their teams.”

And to tempt entrants, hot toddies, a savoury pancake and crepe suzette will be included in the entrance fee of £10 per couple.

The last race will be staged at 4.30pm with a meal for contestants at 4.45pm. This will be followed by a prize evening for supporters, costing £4 each, and include a savoury pancake and crepe suzette.
