POLICE officers will wear name badges to make themselves more open and accountable to the public.
All of Greater Manchester Police force’s 8,100 officers and 4,000 civilian staff will wear the badges, which will display their full name along with their rank.
The cost of issuing all members of staff with the magnetic name badges will be £21,000.
Chief Constable Peter Fahy said: “By issuing police officers and staff with name badges we will simply be bringing GMP in line with the many other forces which already use them.
“It’s part of our commitment to customer service and will make us more open and accountable.”
Some officers have expressed concerns that the badges could be used inappropriately if stolen, as well as leaving staff members with unusual names open to ridicule.
