Help when times are tough

A FUND to help ex-servicemen and women who fall on hard times has been given a boost from the Oldham Chronicle’s Carol Festival.
The event, at Oldham Parish Church, raised £582 which has been handed over to the Oldham Liaison of Ex-Services Association.
Receiving the proceeds, the association’s Trevor Warren said: “We are over the moon, it’s nice to be recognised.
“We give a lot of money out, and this is very welcome and very important to us.”
He explained that the association, which goes back 80 years, supports servicemen and women who were “in dire straits” through the SSAFA (Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families’ Association).
Making the presentation, Frances Hirst, from the Chronicle’s promotions department, said: “We wanted the proceeds of the carol festival to be used to help people in Oldham, and we are pleased to be able to support such a worthwhile local charity.”
