Easter date for market

SHOPPERS could be browsing the stalls of Oldham’s brand new outdoor market by Easter.
Plans to construct a market in Albion Street and Curzon Street were approved in October and traders have been consulted.
Some of the existing businesses with shop fronts on the streets in question have objected to the plans but the hope is that issues can be resolved without the need for arbitration.
A demonstration market was held over five weeks in November and December to allow traders to see what impact it would have on their businesses.
The test was a success: many businesses reported increased sales.
On the outdoor Tommyfield Market, there are plans to swop the existing fixed units for temporary ones that will be used for specialist markets such as antiques events and Asian goods stalls.
Provision for extra car parking is also planned.
