Saddleworth School pupils join in the fun
Chinese New Year was welcomed in Oldham with a round of festivities spanning several days.
Around 50 pupils from Saddleworth School celebrated the dawning of the Year of the Tiger when they joined forces with staff from Manchester Metropolitan University for a day of Chinese culture.
In other celebrations, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice held a Chinese Day to raise money towards the costs of a fund-raising Great Wall of China trek later this year.
And massive celebrations took place in Manchester over the weekend, when the city’s diverse communities gathered together to celebrate cultures old and new.
The two-day event centred on China Town, with a vibrant atmosphere conjured up from performances, processions and parades, stalls, demonstrations and music.
The main event was Sunday’s 175ft long dragon parade from Albert Square to China Town.
