PLUMBER Jonathan Fletcher advertising his skills in Market Place.
Jonathan Fletcher really sold himself when he went job-hunting — by slipping a sandwich board over his head and advertising his skills.
The City and Guilds qualified plumber is tired of job-hunting and being out of work, so he headed to Oldham town centre to sell himself.
The 25-year-old from Shaw said: “I’ve only been doing contract work but jobs are few and far between. There are just no openings and companies aren’t taking people on.
“I’ve been on the Internet and looked at the Jobcentre for jobs but there are absolutely none available. I even went for a job as a pot washer in a pub — that’s how bad it is at the moment.
“It is a bit degrading to do this but I am facing so many hurdles, and I have a mortgage and bills to pay.”
Jonathan qualified four years ago after taking a plumbing course at North Trafford College.
He said: “It feels like I have been to college and wasted my time.”
Now he is building up his skills by taking a gas plumbing course costing £2,500 with help from his grandparents. But he added: “Even then companies want gas fitters with experience, but it’s one week a month so it won’t stop me working and will enhance my skills.”
The former North Chadderton School pupil said: “I hope my sandwich board gets my face known and makes people see I really want a job.”
