CUSTOMERS and staff at the Co-op in Lees were thanked for helping to smash a multi-million-pound charity target.
A series of fund-raising events were held among Co-operative businesses over the past 11 months for the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID). The store in Owl Mill Street managed to raise £6,354 by holding a series of events including dress-down days, children’s colouring competitions and raffles. The amount also meant the Lees branch was one of the biggest fund-raising stores for its size. Its contribution helped boost the final total to £3.5million.
As part of the scheme, 110,000 hearing checks were performed by the Co-operative to raise awareness of hearing loss.
Store manager Elaine Morgan said: “It has been a real co-operative effort.
“We would like to thank all our shoppers in Lees for digging deep in their pockets and supporting our staff in raising so much for this worthwhile charity.”
