AN Oldham blood donor has been honoured for a lifetime of giving to the National Blood Service.

Mavis Green, of Diggle, received a crystal plate for giving an amazing 75 donations.

Mavis said she started donating when she worked at a bank in London and added: “I have seen personally how blood can help people so I think about how it saves lives.”

The awards took place at Lancashire County Cricket Club, Old Trafford, and were presented by Urmston woman Kerry Mills.

Her life was saved twice by blood donors after she suffered severe complications during pregnancy.

Donated blood saved the life of her and her baby daughter.

The awards are a way of recognising the commitment that long serving blood donors give.

Pam Prescott, of the National Blood Service, said: “All our donors are special. It is a pleasure to thank our dedicated donors in this way.”
