Date published: 17 February 2010
Royton farmer Madge Day has died aged 78.
Mrs Day, of Hanging Chadder Farm, was the widow of Geoffrey Day JP, an ex-member of the former Royton Urban District Council. She supported him throughout his 14 years on the council, and was chairman’s lady when he headed the council in 1967-8. She came from Ashton, and was a farmer’s daughter who met her future husband at a Young Farmers’ Club event in Oldham. They married in 1954 and had five children and 18 grandchildren. They worked together at the farm until Geoffrey died in 2004.
Mrs Day’s funeral will be at Oldham Crematorium on Tuesday, followed by a memorial service at Thornham St James’s Church.
