AN OLDHAM pub has teamed up with DJ and musician Clint Boon to brew an exclusive beer.
The Up Steps Inn, High Street, wanted their new ale to honour an Oldham-born celebrity — so they invited the former Inspiral Carpets singer and keyboard player to help make and name the brew.
Currently a radio presenter on Xfm’s drive-time show, as well as a Manchester club DJ, Oldham-born Clint was delighted to be part of the Wetherspoon pub’s project.
Local brewery Greenfield Real Ale Brewery, in Saddleworth, is producing the beer, which will be named “Boon Army” after the cult following of regulars for Clint’s radio show.
The light, refreshing and citrusy ale will be on sale at The Up Steps Inn from March 18. Clint will be at the pub to sample the first pint from 8pm.
The Up Steps Inn shift manager Eric Fulham said: “We wanted to celebrate someone famous from Oldham in the name of our own ale and Clint was more than happy to help out.
“He had a lot of input throughout the project and came along to Greenfield Real Ale Brewery to help with the brewing process. Usually a lager drinker, Clint was keen that the new ale would light, with a citrus taste.
“We are all looking forward to trying our new beer and hope that ‘Boon Army’ will prove to be a popular pint with our customers.”
