Plans for a new snooker centre have come under fire from Oldham College.
Coppice resident Tariq Majid has applied to turn an industrial building, now used as a storeroom, in to a snooker centre and steak house.
The building, next to the college, was once the Oldham Snooker Centre, and licensed to sell alcohol and food. The current application is not for licensed premises.
The plans, currently being considered by council officials, show it would be would be open from 11am to 3am every day, with three full time and five part-time staff.
The college has objected saying that it could create a distraction for students.
Their letter adds that it may result in students mixing with unknown adults and could attract a “particular or dominant group of pupils which could potentially conflict the the college community.”
Planning considerations include using an established commercial area for leisure use, disturbance from odour and noise, and parking and highway safety.
