Royal performance

TWO talented Oldham students have been chosen to perform alongside the renowned Bach choir at London’s Royal Festival Hall in front of Prince Edward.
Chetham’s School of Music students, flute player Joshua Batty and violinist Tom Rowan-Young, will take part in the one-off concert on March 2.
They will perform with Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra, for the rendition of the thrilling Verdi’s Requiem.
Led by widely-respected conductor and musical director, David Hill, Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra and Chetham’s Chorus will perform alongside the Bach Choir’s most celebrated soloists.
Stephen Threlfall, director of music at Chetham’s, said: “Our partnership with the Bach Choir is a clear indication of the calibre of the students we have at Chetham’s and we’re proud to join such world renowned soloists on stage.”
Based in Manchester, Chetham’s is the leading music school in the country and the only one based in the North of England, with 290 musicians aged eight to 18 studying.
It prides itself on accessibility with 90 per cent of students receiving up to full funding from the Government’s music and dance scheme, meaning talent and potential matter more than background or ability to pay.
