Crest is beyond all boundaries

Flashback . . . Oldham’s Lib-Dem council leader Howard Sykes helps fit the first new sign in Royton
A crestfallen councillor has complained about the size of the coat of arms on Oldham’s new boundary signs.
Oldham’s Labour opposition leader, Councillor James McMahon, has sent a letter of complaint to chief executive Charlie Parker after seeing the first sign go up in Royton.
He said the crest, in the top left hand corner of the signs, is barely visible from street level.
And he added: “The signs show complete disregard to the local identities held in each township.
“I find it highly offensive and inappropriate. It is high time that Oldham Council realised it does not own Oldham or its districts.
“The people of Oldham will not tolerate being ‘branded’ by Oldham Council, especially when it means a clear attempt to erase their true, unique and valued identity.”
