REGENERATION remains a challenge and a priority for Oldham Council, according to Councillor Mohib Uddin.
In spite of challenging global economic conditions, making the borough an address of choice remains a key priority for the local authority.
During the financial year to date, there will have been £85 million invested in the borough and more than 250,000 sq ft of new commercial floorspace created.
Some of the public sector and commercial projects completed over the past 18 months include 55,000 sq ft of office space at Howard Court and 225,000 sq ft of industrial space at Broadway 21, both at Broadway Business Park.
Others are the 50,000 sq ft pathology lab at the Royal Oldham Hospital and the 140,000 sq ft Integrated Care Centre in Oldham town centre.
Councillor Mohib Uddin, Cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Regeneration is not something that happens by chance.
“It is a key corporate objective of the council to ensure there is a strategy in place that sets out what is needed for the local economy and how we intend to achieve this.
“The future will remain challenging.
“However, the council will continue to work on the Oldham Beyond plan that underpins the work that is planned to regenerate the borough.”
