Closing the door on bogus callers
Date published: 24 February 2010
RESIDENTS in Royton and Shaw are being urged to attend a special event tomorrow aimed at showing bogus callers the door.
Royton and Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team are hosting the meeting at Tandle View Court, Rochdale Road, between 10am and noon.
Police officers and Home Watch co-ordinators will all be on hand with advice and information on how to avoid falling victim to distraction burglars and rogue traders.
PCSO Sue Hoyle said: “Simple steps like making sure doors and windows are locked and using a door chain when answering the front door are all effective deterrents against thieves.
“It’s also important that people check the identity of callers to their home.
“If you are not expecting them, treat them with suspicion and do not let them in unless you have checked ID and are absolutely certain that they are genuine callers.”
The event is also an opportunity for people to come and meet their neighbourhood officers and tell them what concerns they have about crime and anti-social behaviour in their community.
Alternatively, contact the Royton and Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0161-856 8983 or e-mail roytonandshaw.npt@gmp.police.uk.
