18 sites cleared in three months

THE battle to clean up Oldham has resulted in 18 grot spots being rejuvenated in the past three months.

Oldham Council says the work demonstrates its commitment to tidying up the borough as part of its £2 million Priority Investment Fund.

It has involved the removal of litter and fly-tipped junk, together with landscaping and planting.

Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “The money identified through the Priority Investment Fund is being targeted to tackle those issues that we know are important to citizens.

“As well as transforming many areas that the council owns, Streetscene staff have also been giving advice and guidance to residents so that unadopted alleyways — those not owned by the council — are kept clean.

“Work has also been taking place to publicise the council’s community pledge scheme where citizens agree to do their bit by agreeing to report problems such as litter, graffiti and fly-tipping as soon as they happen so that the council can deal with them swiftly.”

The Priority Investment Fund is a regular programme of investment that aims to put resources into areas highlighted in the corporate plan as being important to improving the borough for all.
