On the ward . . . Oldham’s new neonatal nurse, Faye Bushell.
AMBITIOUS plans to boost children’s health services across the region have brought a new neonatal nurse to Oldham.
Faye Bushell is one of 50 extra neonatal nurses to be employed in Greater Manchester since 2007, and is due to undergo a six-month induction process.
The 22-year-old Salford University graduate and her 49 colleagues were taken on as part of a £100 million investment in children’s and maternity services.
The majority will work in three new and revamped units at the Royal Oldham, St Mary’s and Royal Bolton hospitals.
Faye said: “I came to the Royal Oldham on a three-month placement while I was studying for my degree in children’s nursing and it was a great experience. The challenge and pleasure of working with both babies and their parents made neonatal nursing what I really wanted to do once I’d graduated.”
Leila Williams, director of the Children, Young People and Families Network NHS Manchester, described the move as a milestone.
She added: “The new neonatal nurses are an important part of the modern system of care being created, and we are working hard to make sure that the services they provide will be delivered in the very best facilities possible.”
