HUNDREDS of people took to the streets of Oldham yesterday to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed.
Adults and children of all ages joined in the march which followed a circular route from the Waterloo Street Mosque, on to Union Street, King Street, Redwood Street and then back.
Banners were held, prayers were said and food distributed to the walkers as they followed the route.
Prophet Mohammed’s birthday was on Friday but the march was held on Sunday to allow as many people as possible to take part.
Celebrations started on Thursday as worshippers gathered to mark the birthday.
Nagina Mosque, Coppice, was decked in lights and packed with families for Thursday’s programme which included a talk by barrister Nurul-Aktab Siddiqui, principal of Hijaz College Islamic University in Coventry.
