A MUM-OF-FOUR is to hold a fundraising evening for children left living on the streets of Haiti by January’s earthquake.

Amanda Lowe (30) was spurred into action when she saw a TV documentary about orphaned children with no shelter or care.

The money will be sent via UNICEF to the devastated island to help provide shelter and medical aid.

Amanda, from Watersheddings, who studies humanities at University Campus Oldham, said: “I thought it was no use sitting there thinking what a pity and doing nothing about it, I needed to do something.”

This Saturday she and a group of friends will host an auction and disco in the upstairs room at Last Orders pub in Yorkshire Street, with under 18s allowed until 10.30pm.

It will include an auction of Oldham Athletic, Manchester City and Liverpool football club memorabilia, with promise of more from Manchester United.

Prizes have also been donated by chains such as Tesco and Pizza Hut.

It starts at 8pm, and tickets are £5 or £2.50 for under 14s.

Five-a-side nets money for Haiti

THE beautiful game helped raise money for Haiti when local schools locked horns for a five-a-side football tournament.

Matches took place at the Soccer Village in Milnrow. And it was North Chadderton School which swept the board, with its ‘A’ team beating the “B” team in the final. Crompton House head girl Saba Iltaf, who helped organise the tournament, said: “Our aim was to integrate the schools and encourage a little fun competition, but most importantly, raise money for Haiti.”
