An Oldham office worker swapped his desk for the world’s highest mountain to raise money for charity.
Ian Taylor, who works for Capita Software Services, raised £7,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, with fellow office worker Tom Wilde, from Salford.
Former Saddleworth School pupil Ian (30) tackled Tanzania’s gruelling 19,340ft Mount Kilimanjaro with Tom and 35 other Capita employees from around the country.
Ian said: “The climb has been a truly memorable experience and something that I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in.
“It was a challenging experience — both physically and emotionally — and I am so proud to say that I have done it both for myself and such a commendable charity.
“The support from both Capita and Macmillan throughout the months leading up to the trip was superb.
“I couldn’t have done this without their hard work and the support of my fellow climbers.”
Capita has a three-year partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support with a target of £1 million, and 37 intrepid Capita employees took on the Kilimanjaro climb.
So far they have raised £132,000, bringing the total amount raised by Capita and its employees for Macmillan to £800,000.
