£5m target for daffodil appeal

OLDHAMERS are urged to paint the town yellow to show their support for a vital cancer charity.

Marie Curie Cancer Care fund-raisers have launched their annual Great Daffodil Appeal in a bid to raise £5 million.

Local volunteer fund-raiser Frank Smalley said: “Every donation for a daffodil will help us to provide more free nursing care hours, allowing people to die in the comfort of their own home surrounded by family and friends.

“So please make a donation, wear a daffodil, and help Marie Curie Cancer Care Paint the Town Yellow this March.”

Money raised from the appeal will provide more free nursing care for people with a terminal illness in their own home and the charity’s hospices.

Fund-raisers will be collecting in the town centre throughout March and daffodil pins can also be picked up from thousands of local stores, schools and Marie Curie shops across the UK.

Many of the collectors will be accompanied by a local Marie Curie Nurse who will be on hand to explain where money raised from the appeal will go and the services the charity provides.
