YOUNG mathematicians from Hey With Zion Primary School, Lees, took part in a global challenge to mark World Maths Day yesterday.
A total of 102 pupils at the school attempted to become world record holders by taking part in the online event.
Youngsters around the world each had 60 seconds to correctly answer as many online mental arithmetic questions as possible.
The target was for pupils around the world to beat last year's record of 452,681,681 correct answers.
By 9am yesterday, the brainy pupils had already contributed 5,565 correct answers to the world record attempt.
Andrew Clowes, deputy head teacher, said: “The World Maths Day is a fun way of getting children to do lots of Maths and have fun doing it.
“I've been delighted by the overwhelming enthusiasm of the children.”
Brandon Molloy, the school’s top contributing child, said: “It's cool, good fun and good for learning maths.”
