Roll up and join the Rockestra
Date published: 09 March 2010
LOCAL teenagers are invited to embrace their passion for rock music and join a brand new orchestra.
The Oldham Youth Rockestra will feature 20 musicians on electric guitars, keyboards and percussion dedicated to performing rock classics.
Qualified music teachers Martin Ashurst (keyboards), Joe Weaver (percussion) and Andy Housely (guitar) will run the Rockestra.
The tutors are looking for players with a range of skills, from newcomers with rudimentary musical knowledge right through to more advanced players.
Martin Ashurst said: “Hopefully, we may see some stand-alone bands develop from the Rockestra.
“It’s a good way of meeting prospective band mates and having the chance to assess people’s talents and personalities before actually committing to being in a band with them.”
Anyone interested in finding out more can contact Martin Ashurst at the Lyceum by calling 0161-770 5660.
