Village flower power!

KEEN gardeners are joining forces in an attempt to win a Lydgate in Bloom award and increase community spirit.
Residents living in the area are being encouraged to dust off their trowels, pull on their gardening gloves and pitch some ideas into improving the area’s appearance.
Linda Howarth, of Poplar Avenue, has formed a working party from the “Love Lydgate” resident’s group and is now urging the community to pull together in deciding exactly what can be done in the village.
She said: “It’s all about making a safer, greener and brighter place to live.
Linda now wants residents of all ages and abilities to attend the meeting at the White Hart, tonight at 7.30pm, to bring ideas to the table.
Representatives from St Anne’s Church and the local schools will be attending in the hope of contributing to Lydgate winning the North-West in Bloom Neighbourhood Award later in the year.
One thing is for certain, village children Tom Mitchell (6) and brother Connor (2) will be pitching in when it comes to the dirty work.
Tom can’t resist lending a hand in the garden, following in his grandmother’s footsteps growing beetroot, carrots and broad beans.
