1,000 people needed to strip for art

CELEBRATED international artist Spencer Tunick is hoping to find 1,000 people from Greater Manchester to take their clothes off for art.

New York-based artist Tunick has travelled the world for years, taking photographs of specially-posed, mass “installations” of naked people. He has now been commissioned by the Lowry in Salford to add the arts centre to his list for its 10th birthday.

This will be one of his biggest projects to date, with groups tastefully posed at eight as-yet unnamed locations in Manchester and Salford.

The artist is now looking for 1,000 volunteers to shed both their clothes and their inhibitions. Volunteers can register their interest in taking part at www.thelowry.com/tunick

Volunteers will be taken, by a fleet of heated buses, to eight locations over the weekend of May 1 and 2. The resulting photographic and film work will be shown at The Lowry from June 12–September 26 as part of an exhibition, “Everyday People”.
