Onwards and upwards for fab five students

OXFORD’s ‘dreaming spires’ beckon a handful of Crompton House School students this autumn.
Henry Hesten is preparing to read physics at Christchurch College, and Tom Stewart music at Worcester College.
Keble College beckons for Daniel Costigan to study maths and Robert Barker chemistry, while Robert also has a choral scholarship at the college. Sam Cooper’s offer to study English at New College is deferred until 2011.
They were among 10 Crompton House pupils who applied to Oxbridge after preparing with Year 13 head Paul Midwinter.
This included philosophy sessions to boost their interview skills, with pupils from other sixth forms taking part. Among them was North Chadderton pupil Charlotte Hill, who has been offered a place to study languages at Cambridge.
Crompton House headteacher Elsie Tough said: “With competition for university places having increased greatly over the past few years, the students are to be congratulated on their achievement so far.
“We wish them, and all our sixth formers, all the very best in their important exams later in the year.”
