Medical centre call

A Chadderton councillor is calling for a new medical centre in Chadderton on the old library and baths site.
Chadderton North Councillor Jack Hulme, the Tory group leader, says Oldham Council and the primary care health trust should work together to improve facilities.
He told the recent NHS Oldham meeting that although excellent work was being done locally — such as the new well-being centre — there are still significant local health inequalities in the area, a legacy of the industrial past and ageing population.
He asked the health board to consider redeveloping the empty library and baths site in Middleton Road to ensure residents had easy access to modern health facilities.
Another Chadderton North Councillor Len Quinn added: “We need to revitalise our town centre with a modern health facility that will be at the heart of our community.
“We also need to learn from other councils who have successfully incorporated their historic buildings into new health developments.”
