Concert treat for all the family

Date published: 12 March 2010

MUSIC lovers of all ages can join Oldham Symphony Orchestra tomorrow for a family concert.

The concert, at The Salvation Army Church & Community Centre, in Failsworth, is aimed at families with young children as this year’s theme is storytime.

The main star will be Tubby, a young tuba who loves being in the orchestra but never gets to play the melody.

Musician Derhim Bahakam, who started to play the tuba at the age of 11, will be playing the lead character.

In addition, the orchestra will be playing a range of other pieces including excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” and “Symphonie Fantastique” by Berlioz.

Ann Heeks will lead the orchestra and Richard Waldock will conduct, with Amanda Owen as narrator.

There will also be various children’s competitions including a prize to conduct the orchestra for the best fancy dress costume.

Storytime Family Concert will start at 5:30pm and tickets are £10 adults, £6 concessions, £3 for under 16s, and are available on the door or by calling 0161-652 7837.
