Maths ace on top of the world

Pupils at Failsworth School answered 93,542 questions in total on World Maths Day
A TOP mathelete at Failsworth School was rewarded for her problem-solving skills on World Maths Day.
Students from the school joined maths fans across the globe taking part in a range of mental challenges and online puzzles.
Year 7 pupil Holly Grimes was crowned top student after answering 10,000 questions alone from the school’s total of 93,542.
She said: “I really enjoyed the competition and was trying to make it in to the world hall of fame.”
More than one million students from over 200 countries took part in the challenge which set a new world record after 479,732,613 questions were answered correctly.
At Failsworth School, teachers started lessons with a maths puzzle and a maths quiz was held during registration.
Break time gave students an opportunity to take part in a chess games, logic puzzles and speed stacking competitions.
Maths teacher Benjamin Atkins said: “The idea was to try and unite the world in numbers on this one day — and at Failsworth the feedback the maths department have had has been fantastic.”
