CHADDERTON twins Jordan and Brett Francis are on trial for murder accused of shooting a dad of two when a drugs deal got out of hand.

The pair (26), of Birch Avenue, are alleged to have shot dead their friend Amran “Manny” Khan (29).

It is claimed they had supplied Mr Khan and his brother Gulfan with £12,000 of heroin but were not paid for the drugs following an argument.

The twins are said to have fled to Runcorn after the murder where it is claimed they took painkillers, slit their wrists and hurled themselves into the Manchester Ship Canal.

They are then alleged to have confessed to the murder to paramedics after they had got themselves out of the water saying “We’ve killed someone, but we didn’t mean to. It’s a long story”.

Paul Campbell Reid, prosecuting, told Manchester Crown Court: “The Khans and the two brothers fell out over a drug debt. Amran Khan was murdered as part of the repercussions of that.”

The twins deny murder and making admissions of guilt.

The court heard that on September 18 last year, Mr Khan was lured on to the doorstep of his home in Nugget Street, Glodwick, by someone throwing a piece of kerbstone on to his car.

Mr Campbell Reid said a witness then heard: “A loud bang like a gun being fired, followed by another two bangs in quick succession, followed by someone shouting ‘help, help, my husband’s been shot’.”

The court heard Mr Khan was shot in the chest and back as he tried to escape the gunmen, who were armed with a 9mm Luger.

The prosecution claim the gunmen used a stolen BMW car to which the Francis twins can be linked.

Mr Campbell Reid said a man called John Butterworth had driven the men to pick up the car in Chadderton earlier that day.
