Play to tackle extremism
Date published: 19 March 2010
A NATIONALLY acclaimed play examining the issues of extremism and terrorism is coming to Oldham on Monday.
Originally commissioned by Lancashire Police, “Not in my Name” gives young people the chance to discuss the issue of extremism in a safe and productive environment.
Now pupils from every school and college in the borough are invited to attend the production and take part in the debate.
Councillor Rod Blyth, cabinet member for people and communities, said: “It is important that the issue of extremism is examined and discussed in a measured and informed way.
“This play is an excellent way of doing just that.”
Some 1,200 pupils across Oldham will watch the production at Failsworth School from Monday to Friday next week. In addition, there will be a free public performance at Chadderton Town Hall on Monday (6.30 to 8.30pm).
