Centre celebrates a decade of learning

CHAMPAGNE was in order for staff at Littlewoods Shop Direct who celebrated 10 successful years of their on-site learning centre.
Hundreds of staff have gained a range of qualifications at the centre, based at the Linney Lane distribution centre in Shaw, in subjects such as maths, English, administration and warehouse management. The anniversary celebrations also marked the centre’s expansion with 18 internet-ready computers available for use.
Phil Woolas, MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, attended the official relaunch along with John Hannett, USDAW’s General Secretary, and Mick Heald, company director.
Mandy Owens, learning centre co-ordinator, said: “Mr Woolas praised the centre and the effect it has had on the community.
“The facility has helped people progress in their careers and has helped the company recruit from within its current staff.”
