POLICE patrols have been stepped up around the Higher Memorial Park in Failsworth to tackle anti-social behaviour and dog fouling.
The move is part of a joint drive by police and Oldham Council to tackle the issues that matter most to residents in the Failsworth East ward.
The Failsworth and Hollinwood Neighbourhood Policing Team has increased patrols, while enforcement officers from Oldham Council are giving out free dog waste bags to ensure dog owners clean up after their pets.
People caught letting their dog foul and not cleaning it up will be issued with a £80 fixed penalty notice.
Insp Dave Stopford said: “These are the priority issues that residents in Failsworth East have been telling us they want us to tackle.
“By teaming up with the council, we can work together to ensure our residents feel safer and more confident about taking a stroll in their local park.
“This is part of our commitment to delivering the Policing Pledge, giving people a clear minimum standard of service they can expect from their local police and addressing the issues that matter most to our communities.”
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “The majority of residents who come to the park are here to enjoy its facilities and have fun so the minority must not be allowed to spoil it for them. Park users should act responsibly at all times.”
